Let's Talk About the Emissions Cap, Wildfires, and Oil & Gas Companies' Huge Profits & Pollution

A free dinner to be provided, because oil and gas CEOs don’t deserve a free meal, but you do. Speakers include: - Sabine Dietz and - Gretchen Fitzgerald, Sierra Club Canada. Our partner organization is the Tantramar Alliance Against Hydrofracking. Have the feeling individual Canadians aren't at fault for Canada missing emissions targets? You're right. Wildfires now 'explode' on a regular basis, meanwhile oil & gas companies' huge profits & pollution hurt your wallet and our climate. You can hear testimonies of the impact of these climate change-accelerated fires in the video above. Join us in Sackville & let’s “put a cap on it.” We're at a pivotal moment in our fight against climate change, and your voice is more crucial than ever! As a community, we have the power to “PUT A CAP ON IT” a and hold wealthy oil and gas companies accountable and make them do their fair share to cut emissions as Canada's most polluting sector. And it's about time they did their fair share, since for every dollar of inflation over two years in Canada, 25 cents of what YOU paid in inflation went to oil and gas and mining extraction profits. Join us for an informal meeting in Sackville and bring your friends! Share your concerns about climate change and its impacts, such as wildfires, loss of biodiversity, and hurricanes and let's pave the way for impactful environmental actions in Canada. Why Your Presence Matters Oil and gas companies are among the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, intensifying the global climate crisis. Their CEOs and lobbyists have lied repeatedly to their own workers and the public about climate change and the economics of oil and gas. Climate change is NOT workers' fault and it's not your fault. Climate change IS the result of stalls to progress that have benefited the very few at the expense of those who have lost homes (and in some cases whole communities) to wildfires and other climate impacts in Canada. It's time to discuss the ways to tackle climate change at the grassroots level and the role of local communities in shaping Canada’s energy policies; strategic actions and innovative solutions to cap emissions and accelerate our transition to cleaner energy. This townhall will serve as a critical platform for discussing: - Local Resources: What do municipalities like Sackville need from other levels of government and ENGOs like ourselves to help with the green transition? - Accountability Measures: What mechanisms do we have to hold oil and gas companies responsible for their environmental footprint? - Community-Driven Solutions: Share your ideas on fostering a just transition to cleaner energies that benefits every community member equitably. How do we make sure that a green energy future benefits everyone and helps people work where they live in the communities they love. For more details contact us at info@sierraclub.ca
