Valmy and Catherine Kennedy - house show

House show (location to be announced) featuring ECMA-nominated artist Valmy (St. John's, Nfld) and Catherine Kennedy (Saint John, NB). Valmy is a Newfoundland-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Ontario who’s been following the ocean and making home on the East Coast. Exploring themes of wonder, loss, and healing, she uses her folk-influenced music to tell stories about loving and stumbling your way through the dark. Valmy creates and performs by weaving nature-inspired melodic swells and atmospheric harmonies with her contemplative writing. Her debut full-length album ‘The In Between’ was independently released in September 2023 and warmly received by listeners, with a thoughtful review from Tony Ploughman of Fred’s Records: “The rhythms and melodies wrap around the mind and soul like a lovingly patched quilt… There is a cohesiveness to this full album offering meditative musings on balancing one's own mental state in harmony with nature, the songs providing a methodical process to achieve that balance. And the underlying intensity to follow through on the beckoning of one’s thoughts and emotions to create is constant…Deftly produced, engineered and mixed, “The In Between” is one of 2023’s finest NL Releases”. Valmy concluded 2023 with two MusicNL nominations, was a 2024 East Coast Music Award nominee, and was also nominated for three 2024 MusicNL awards for Alternative Artist, Solo Artist, and Ron Hynes Songwriter of the Year. Having performed at her first Sappyfest in 2022, she looks forward to returning to Sackville this autumn while touring through Eastern Canada in support of ‘The In Between’ . Award-winning singer-songwriter Catherine Kennedy invites you to join her on the long way home. Any story worth telling deserves the time it takes to travel along the nostalgic route, and Catherine’s soulful lyrics and bluesy tones will transport you directly there. In 2018, Catherine released her solo EP Fifty-Fifty Chance and toured her music throughout the East Coast at festivals such as Area 506, Folly Fest, Paddlefest, and Shivering Songs. 2022 saw the release of her self-titled debut album for which she, along with her band, won Breakthrough Artist of the Year from the Music New Brunswick Awards, and earned two further nominations for Recording of the Year and Song of the Year. One music-lover praised how “the beautiful quality and range of Catherine’s voice pairs perfectly with her gift of storytelling. Catherine's music makes you feel part of something bigger. Her songs always seem as though they're written for you.” So come roam along the winding road of your story and join Catherine on the long way home.
