Demonstrating the Mi’kmaq art of Porcupine Quillwork - Demonstration and opportunity to try your hand at quilling - drop in
Indigenous Artist-in-Residence Nicole Porter at the Sackville Farmers’ Market. A free event, no need to book in advance, drop in between 9 am and noon. Nicole will be demonstrating the Mi’kmaq art of porcupine quillwork and giving people the opportunity to try their hand at quilling. Mi’kmaq porcupine quill work is a time-honored, intricate art form utilizing softened,dyed porcupine quills to decorate birch bark and other material. For centuries, it has served as both a culturally significant craft and a testament to the remarkable patience, skill, and artistry of the Mi’kmaq people. Nicole will demonstrate and talk about the process of gathering the bark, quills, preparing the material and how to quill onto birch bark.
